Jan 20, 2024
Target announced on Thursday that Michael Fiddelke, current chief financial officer, is set to take on the role of chief operating officer, effective February 4.
In this role, Fiddelke will now oversee the operations of Target, including its nearly 2,000 stores, global supply chain network, fulfillment services, network capacity planning, enterprise operations, store construction, and flight services. Until Fiddelke's replacement as chief financial officer is named, he will continue to fulfill his responsibilities in that role, as well.
Fiddelke started his career as a consultant with Deloitte and joined Target as an intern in 2003. Since that time, he has held a variety of leadership positions across the organization, including finance, merchandising, human resources and store operations.
"With his 20 years with the company, spanning roles across our business and most recently as our chief financial officer, Michael brings a diverse set of experiences and an end-to-end view of our business that will benefit Target and our continued growth well into the future,” said Brian Cornell, chair and CEO.
“I look forward to working alongside him as our new chief operating officer and appreciate his ongoing commitment as chief financial officer until his successor is named.”
In addition to Fiddelke's promotion, Target announced the forthcoming retirement of chief legal and compliance officer Don Liu. Target has initiated a search for Liu's successor, with an update expected later this year. Liu, who joined Target in 2016, will transition to a strategic advisor role within the company until 2025.
"Don has played a critical role as a member of our leadership team and a trusted advisor to many across the organization. We appreciate his support as we identify his successor and look forward to celebrating him as he nears his official retirement," added Cornell.
Moreover, Target unveiled changes in its merchandising leadership. Rick Gomez, the current chief food & beverage officer, will now take on the role of chief food, essentials & beauty officer, overseeing Target's frequency categories.
Meanwhile, Jill Sando, the current chief merchandising officer, will assume the position of chief merchandising officer of apparel & accessories, home, and hardlines, focusing on discretionary categories. Both Gomez and Sando will report to Christina Hennington, Target's chief growth officer.
