Tod's in pole position at Pitti Uomo with Automobili Lamborghini

Published

The presentation of the Tod’s and Automobili Lamborghini collaboration could only take place at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence, according to Tod’s boss Diego Della Valle. One has to agree with him: the vast, historic building was the ideal setting to showcase the new Tod’s footwear collection, alongside Lamborghini’s latest Revuelto models, and to allow the label’s skilled craftsmen to demonstrate the rigorous, painstaking manufacturing process behind the line’s footwear. A process that is both artisanal and high-tech.

The project exudes plenty of passion and a shared DNA, with a partnership between the luxury label and the supercar manufacturer, which celebrates Italian craftsmanship and tradition, as well as high-tech research and innovation. Different products, analogous roots, shared values and the subtle similarities between the two partners’ respective worlds are highlighted in the new Tod’s shoes. The line includes two models for men and women, with the Lamborghini crest on the heel. They are distinctive for their bright colours, the iconic Lamborghini hues, and feature an oversize version of Tod’s signature rubber pebble soles. The shoes are assembled with tubular bands reminiscent of a supercar’s sleek silhouette, and made with carefully selected leather and, last but not least, they are cut and stitched strictly by hand.

Speaking to FashionNetwork.com, Della Valle said that “we have always been renowned for our driving shoes, and now we have created a new product – one we have worked on for a year – that is consistent with our DNA but surprising for its advanced design and technology.”

The launch of the Tod’s x Automobili Lamborghini line is the first release in a collaboration that will also feature collections of leather goods and apparel, so more surprises are in store.

“[Tod’s and Lamborghini] are two iconic made-in-Italy brands. One is famous for its products’ quality and craftsmanship, the other for its design and advanced technology. We have worked for over a year on this joint effort, and we are satisfied with the result. It’s like the perfect marriage,” said Della Valle.

In a few days, Tod's will present next winter’s menswear collection at its customary venue, Villa Necchi in Milan. “Milan and Florence are two complementary cities,” said Della Valle, adding that “Milan is my first home. Florence has a piece of my heart, here I feel totally at home.”

During the presentation, Della Valle also had the opportunity to outline the future outlook for Italy’s fashion industry. “In 2024, [Italian fashion] will further establish itself,” he said, confirming the opinion expressed at Pitti Uomo’s inaugural conference. “We will call it a positive year,” he added.
