Rebelle to merge with Vinted as parent firm seeks broader price and item profile
Jan 19, 2024
Secondhand luxury fashion platform Rebelle is closing and merging with its parent company Vinted’s own platform, 18 months after Vinted acquired the business.
Vinted said Rebelle is shutting down on 18 March but it will start closing the platform on 19 February.
From that date, it will send invitations for account holders to move some of their account information over to Vinted.
At that point, only ongoing orders will be able to be completed and nobody will be able to buy, sell or list new items.
That said, Concierge items won’t be able to move to Vinted and arrangements are being made to return these to sellers.
Rebelle founder Cécile Wickmann said the end of her platform is “a new beginning” and she’s becoming Senior Director Luxury at Vinted itself.
As this suggests, Vinted is making a bigger play for the upscale market through its own platform. While Rebelle’s profile is much more luxury-focused than its owner (where cheaper fashion is the biggest focus), Vinted had already integrated Rebelle’s verification process last year with the service available for hundreds of designer and streetwear labels.
Overall it means Vinted — like multiple other resale sites — will have much broader spread of items and price points.
