Dior unveiled on Thursday a new capsule collection inspired by the iconic artist and feminist pioneer, Niki de Saint Phalle.
Dior’s relationship with the artist began in 1954 when Niki de Saint Phalle, not only a revolutionary artist but also a model, donned a Dior look captured by photographer Henry Clarke.
In 1965, Marc Bohan, the then creative director of Dior, forged a unique and enduring friendship with Saint Phalle, followed by a series of collaborations that cemented their artistic alliance. Most recently, Maria Grazia Chiuri paid tribute to her through her Dior Spring/Summer 2018 ready-to-wear collection.
Now, in 2024, Dior is set to revive this timeless connection, paying homage to Saint Phalle's legacy with a capsule collection, featuring pieces that highlight the universe of the famed visual artist. The collection showcases the artist's extraordinary imagination through drawings inspired by her works titled 'Tu Es Mon Dragon', 'Strength', and 'Foulard Zodiaque'.
As part of the capsule, the iconic Lady Dior, the Dior Book Tote, and elegant silk squares were reimagined with colorful motifs representing the signs of the zodiac. Completing the collection are long-sleeved T-shirts, wrap-around knits, and denim items, featuring a dragon motif that takes center stage.
