Christian Dior to show women’s pre-collection in New York on April 15
While Dior Homme will show the Fall 2024 collection in Hong Kong on March 23, the Parisian label’s pre-Fall 2024 womenswear collection will be showcased in New York, as a tribute to the “unwavering ties forged between Dior and the United States from the early days of the house.” The show is scheduled on April 15, 2024 at the Brooklyn Museum of art.
“Celebrating the passion [Dior’s] designer-founder always had for this fascinating American metropolis, this mesmerising show will be staged in the heart of Brooklyn Museum, reaffirming the symbolic, powerful alliance that unites Dior with this iconic institution,” said the LVMH group’s star label.
Between the end of 2021 and early 2022, the museum notably hosted an exhibition entitled ‘Christian Dior, designer of dreams,’ tracing the relationship between the French designer and the USA, and the city of New York in particular. In 1947, Dior was invited to Dallas to receive an award by luxury department store Neiman Marcus. He spent a few days also in New York and was blown away by the city, where he set up a subsidiary the following year.
The museum also has a connection to Dior through artists who exhibit there, for example feminist artist Judy Chicago with her monumental work ‘The Dinner Party.’ Chicago has collaborated with Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of Dior’s womenswear collections.
Chiuri’s Fall 2024 collection was inspired by Marlène Dietrich, “a bridge between American and French fashion culture,” blending “the Dior silhouette with the diva’s phantasmagorical presence and boyish allure,” and utilising among others tweed fabrics typical of British menswear, as the label stated in a press release.
